What’s
The Big Put On?
8-1-2000
1. Put-on
adj.
Pretended;
feigned.
n. Slang
1.
A deceptive outward appearance.
2.
The act of teasing or misleading someone, especially for amusement.
3.
Something, such as a prank, intended as a hoax or joke; a spoof.
The
world has pulled the wool over our eyes at times…it pretends to be something
it’s not. Look at the world around you…there are images that are geared
towards you, for you to buy into. (EX: Pop Music Icons that are “made” {Brittney
Spears, Backstreet Boys, “Your band here”}, commercials {like GAP etc.},
Clothing, and drinks {Mountain Dew: is anyone that extreme?}).
The whole time, there are hurting teens that are trying to live up to some image
that the world has created, and at the same time God is trying to get us to
conform to the image of Christ so He can use YOU to change the world! You are
NOT the future, you are the NOW.
It’s
your choice…do you believe the PUT ON…or do you want to do
the PUT ON!
2.
Put On verb– to
place on one’s self, to get dressed, to add to.
To
avoid the big “Put-On”, we have to learn how to every day place on us what
God has given us (Jesus Christ) to overcome the world system (There’s nothing
wrong with being a rebel, but do it for the right, eternal reasons!).
Let’s
look at 7 right “Put-Ons”…
1.
Put Him on as JESUS, to save from and to the uttermost.
(Hebrews 7:22-25)
– This is a radically saved lifestyle (forgive me for saying “radical”, I
grew up in the 80’s). Jesus saves us to the UTTERMOST…we should have a
passionate life for and thru Him!
2.
Put
Him on as LORD, to rule and regulate your actions.
(Romans 13:14) –
Many want to have Jesus as Savior, but not as Lord…don’t be mistaken, there
is a RADICAL SACRIFICE you must make to be a Christian, laying down yourself and
letting Him sit on the throne of your life (in my case, I surely want the God
who created the whole universe running things, I think He can do a much better
job than I!).
3.
Put
Him on as CHRIST, to transform our lives like His. (Galatians
3:27) – The only way we can survive in this world system as a Believer
is to not live by this world’s system…we live in a different Kingdom!
We’re aliens! We’re strangers! Pilgrims! We ARE seated in heavenly places
with Christ. When we put on CHRIST, we take His attributes (He never sinned). We
can become more like HIM, but we have to put HIM on!
4.
Put Him on as HOLINESS, to manifest Himself thru us. (Ephesians
4:24 & Colossians 3:10) – His holiness is what the new man is…if
you struggle with sin, put on HIS HOLINESS! You cannot stop smoking, cussing,
drinking, drugging, lying, fornicating or any other –ing on your own!
When you receive HIS holiness, sin takes a back seat (matter of fact, it gets
left on the side of the road!). We do this by walking in the Spirit…which is
simply having a “God-Consciousness”…realizing He’s with you 24-7, 365.
5.
Put Him on as ARMOR.
(Ephesians
6:11) – Can you imagine a soldier in any war running across the
battlefield buck-naked? Yet many Christians do this every day of their life. If
you have some battles and you’re getting beat up, check yourself! Are you
using the shield of faith to stop those flamin’ arrows?? Do you have your
breastplate of righteousness protecting your heart? How about your
sword…remember, it’s an OFFENSIVE weapon…you fought back lately with the
Word?
6.
Put Him on as POWER, to act through in service.
(Luke
24:49) – The disciples were told not to leave and do anything before
they were endued with POWER FROM ON HIGH…why? They didn’t trust in
their own strengths, but used the power of the Holy Ghost to change the world!
(Remember Peter wimpin’ out and saying he didn’t even know Jesus, and then
later giving one of the greatest, most memorable messages of all time in Acts?
What happened…POWER!!!)
7.
Put Him on as LIGHT, that He may be seen.
(Romans
13:12) – Jesus wants you for a sunbeam, that’s for sure. We know that
the world is a dark place, and the only thing that can bring light to it is the
true LIGHT, and He lives inside of you! People who are in darkness because of
their lifestyles should be drawn to you!
There is the only hope for all of mankind
(not the wrestler, but he needs Jesus too) inside of YOU, young person…there
is enough of God inside of just one of you to change the entire world for Jesus
Christ…the question is, will you tap into it? If we will, every day of our
lives, do the big PUT ON, and not be PUT ON, we can
make a difference for the kingdom.
