How to GET OFF and STAY OFF
of the love Roller Coaster!

(NOTE: If allowable, I used the old "Love Rollercoaster"
song by the Ohio Players as an intro)

What is the love roller coaster?
EX:

1) walking in love one minute and the flesh the next.
2) Being on a spiritual high one moment and down the next. When on a spiritual high it’s easy to love!
3) Disappointments that turn into a lack of the love-walk

How many would like to walk in this principle all the time & not stumble?

(Share about sign at dealership…car is made up of some 15,000 parts, if we made a car 90% perfect, 150 parts would still fail…even 99.9%, 15 would fail…) This Body is made up of millions of members, most of which are constantly rubbing against each other….so even if we walked in love 99.9% of the time…

How many have said, “Well, I love him/her, I just can’t stand being around them…I’ll love them, but I don’t have to like them.”

Expose the lie (I love them, but don't want to be around them): 1 John 3:10-23
The love of God COMPELS US to people! (EX: going home to see my family, can’t WAIT!) *v.18
10,14 – not saved?   v.15 – OUCH! (Hard stuff…you may say, I’m worried!)

1 John 4:17-19 – We can be free of worry on judgment day if we have walked in God’s kind of love!

A fearful life, fear of death, fear of judgment…is one not yet fully formed in love.

2 Attributes we need to understand about God’s love before we can get off the Rollercoaster:

1)     God’s love is UNALIENABLE (Romans 8:38-39)

Our problem is that we let death, life, angels (?), principalities, powers, things present, things to come, height, depth and created things separate us from the love of God’s PEOPLE.

When we come to the understanding that God loves us unconditionally, we’re not on a works system, or points system, then we will begin to see people the way GOD does!

2)     1 John 2:15-17 – We need to ask ourselves, have worldly possessions overtaken us? Are you consumed more with your life in the world than your life in the Word? Are there things that take precedence over God?

**If there are things that have taken the place of God in your life, they will easily take the place of people, and your love for them. (Hard Message!!!)

4 Keys to staying off the Love Rollercoaster:

1)     Hebrews 10:24-25 – Stir ourselves up when we’ve come together, especially as the return of the Lord draws near! We do this by considering one another (OVER ourselves, putting others first)

2)     1 Peter 3:1-12 – Have your home life in order (God spoke to me at Sun. night prayer) v. 1-7 If we aren’t walking in it at home, then God won’t bless…your prayers are hindered! How can we walk in it at church, if it doesn’t begin at home…v. 8-9 Be in UNITY, have the COMPASSION OF CHRIST (E.M. Bounds – Jesus wept is the shortest and biggest verse in the Bible), love as brothers, be tenderhearted, courteous (drivers!), no vengeance or payback, but BLESSING

3)     1 Peter 4:8, 1 Peter 1:22 – Have FERVENT LOVE for one another! (2 words fervent in the Greek…one is “hot or zeal”, other is WITHOUT CEASING….that is what is mentioned here, walking in love without ceasing…we have to CONTINUALLY remind ourselves about this, speak this Word into our life, allow the Holy Ghost to develop it
(if we aren’t actively pursuing it, we won’t find it…1 Cor. 14 – “pursue love”…if it has to be pursued, it must be something that has to be ran after! {Roscoe P. Coltrain – in hot pursuit!})

4)     2nd Peter 1:5-11 – There is a process of growth in love here (explain – starts w/ faith, end result is LOVE)
w/o these principles operating in our lives, w/o this process, we will continually stumble (v.9 says you are BLIND!)
v.10 – the promise is that if we do these things, we will NEVER stumble!

CLOSE: Read Philippians 2:1-8 out of The Message

Rollercoasters can be fun at first (contest I've seen...fun at first but at the end they look green)…

If your love walk has been up and down, it’s easy to get discouraged and not want to walk in it (new believers are full of love, ‘til they meet mature ones)
